The Shelter on the Lake - Our home in bariloche
From El Bolson Maya left a day before Eyal to Bariloche to skydive (it was crazy and incredible, the video says it all). On her way to the hostel inside Bariloche she met an Israeli friend from the trip who told her about a place across from the bus terminal where you can stay for a couple of nights. He explained a little how the shelter was a really nice place with good people who all love traveling.
The day afterwards Maya went to the shelter planning to take Eyal there when he gets into town. The shelter was pretty packed that night but we were welcomed in and stayed the night in our tent in the backyard. From the first night we understood that we had come to a pretty unique place. The stay here is for free, there's always food in the fridge and you're welcome to cook in any style you wish. There are volunteers that live in the shelter who dedicate their patagonian summer to this home. They live here for the summer, help run the place and mostly make the atmosphere here calm and welcoming. Of course we used the kitchen to it's fullest and made good food for anyone who was willing to try it- shakshooka (some say it's the best shakshooka they've ever eaten), asado oven style with papas fritas, some fritata and helped out with a pizza night.
The founder of this awesome home is a traveler himself who loves rock climbing and invites guests and volunteers to join him. We decided the same night to postpone our trek in Bariloche so we could tag along instead for a day of rock climbing in Bariloche! It was a great place for climbing, the whole site had a spectacular view to the Nahuel Huapi lagoon and the mountains surrounding it. There were a few different climbing routes for different levels and he had enough equipment for all of us. A great way to spend the day in Bariloche, climbing with good people.
We wanted to say thank you to the shelter and it's many volunteers for the idea of such a home for travelers, for dedicating their time and effort for the idea to come alive and for giving us a wonderful experience!
